It started with me asking my friend to come with me to an unfamiliar health facility to get my bloodwork done in Carleton Place. Then, we ate at an Arabic restaurant. Before we know it, we were strolling around Carleton Place city centre with her kids. My passion is supporting independent businesses and Carleton Place happens to be a haven for them.
We had coffee at Gathering Ground Cafe, went to Carousel boutique, acquired a library card at the Carleton Place Public Library and borrowed a couple of upcycling books. To top it all off, we went to Carleton Place & Beckwith Heritage Museum where we get to see, how Carleton Place started and the people who shaped it into what it is today. It also happens to be Carleton Place’s 200th year making our visit extra special!
I’ve been to Carleton Place a lot with my husband (because he loves going to Walmart and Mitchell’s there), but we’ve never explored it, until yesterday. There are a lot of great places to hang out. There’s even a bar with a great lake view called The Waterfront Gastropub! My friend and I couldn’t go in there because we’re with kids, but I can suggest the place to my husband for a date night.
Another event to watch for is the annual Bridge St. Summer Fest 2019 on Aug 03! I heard about it last year but I was overwhelmed with exploring downtown Ottawa and general life adjustments after moving here from Saskatchewan in June – yes! My husband and I have been Ontario residents exactly this month of last year. It gets better every day.
